"Good Luck Against Chilhowee Tuesday Night"
LEETON BULLDOGS 3-0 IN CONF.
Leeton 77 - Kingsville 51
The Leeton High School Bulldogs had a great offensive balance Friday night in defeating
Kingsville's Tigers 77-51. Four Leeton players were in double figures with Alex Anstine and Dylan Swabby putting up a double double.
Anstine had 18 points and 10 rebounds while Swabby chipped in 16 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Cameron Elwell scored 16, and
freshmen Levi Manley dominated the inside with 13 points going 9 for 12 from the free throw line. The Bulldogs moved to 9-8 on the
year and 3-0 in conference play. They will play Chilhowee Tuesday night in a big conference game. It will be the third time for the
two teams to meet in what has been a very tough season. Both earlier games were won by last second shots with a margin of 2 points. It
should be a good one in the Leeton gymnasium.
Stats for the Kingsville game by Leeton: Alex Anstine 18 pts, 10 reb; Cameron Elwell 16 pts, 7 reb; Dylan Swabby 16 pts,
12 reb; Levi Manley 13 pts, 7 reb; Colter Armstrong 6 pts, 9 reb; Doug Norush 4 pts; Taylor Bruce 2 reb; Wyatt Fleming 2 pts, 1 reb; Wyatt
Bell 1 pt; John Fleming 1 steal; Dusty Stone 1 reb.
Chilhowee went to 15-4 on the season by handling Lakeland easily by the score of 63-36. Eight players scored including
Brandon Lankford 12, Christian Harness 11, Dillon Anstine 10, Lorenzo Cisneros 9, Justin Lankford 8, Alex Edwards 6, Matt West 5, and Jordon
Lankford 2. So who do you guard in this spread out scoring effort? The same goes for both teams. Should be a great matchup.
Girls score and stats have not been turned in but will be reported as soon as we receive them.
3RD ANNUAL CELEBRITY DINNER
HOSTED BY LCBC
The Leeton Community Betterment Committee will be hosting their 3rd annual
Celebrity Dinner at the school on February 18 in the Gene Willcockson Auditorium. Tickets are available from Marijayne Manley at the school
or by emailing mmanley@leeton.k12.mo.us.
Always a delicious meal, enjoyable entertainment and great fun are provided. Plan now to attend and participate. The
money goes toward projects that benefit the entire community. Help today.
GROWTH AT CHRISTIAN CHURCH
The Leeton Christian Church continues to show growth as worship services this year
have exceeded an attendance of over 120 consistently and this past Sunday the building was packed with the overflow room open to provide
seats. An attendance of 134 was counted. There have been seven who have placed their membership since the first of the year. It is good
to see church growth in the community.
LEETON IN WORLD WAR II
Available at Sunflower Bank in Leeton
Released Nationally
For the past year work has continued on the expanding and upgrading of the popular
book released at the Leeton Museum's October meeting in 2010. The 100 copies prepared then were sold before the day was over with
excellent reviews. Author House of Bloomington, Indiana, signed a contract with Bob Wyatt for publishing "A Small Town's Sacrifices:
Leeton in World War II" in February. The finished book was officially released and is available at the Sunflower Bank in Leeton
CITY COUNCIL FILINGS FOR ELECTION
No surprises in the city council election scheduled for the first Tuesday of April. On the
west side Loretta Burford filed for another term and is unopposed. On the east side Steve Binder filed for another term and is unopposed. As
for the unexpired term of Joe Anstine that has been filled by Tom Wissinger (appointed by council), Tom has apparently enjoyed his time on
the city council and has filed for the term. He is unopposed.
NOMINATED FOR AN EMMY
Awards March 17 in Nashville
Teea Goans has been noniminated for an Emmy for her music video "Letter From God."
How does she connect with Leeton? Her mother, Sandy Goans, was in charge of advertising at the Leeton Shield in the 1980's for a couple
of years. At that time Teea was a very young girl already getting attention at area talent competitions. Her first CD was released about
the time her mother left the Shield.
Teea graduated from Clinton High School and has been performing nearly all of her life. Her recent music video, "Letter
From God" has already won the Best Inspirational Video Award from Yallwire, the Austin based internet music video network devoted to
country, Christian, bluegrass and alternative music. In that competition she defeated "I'm Gonna Love You" by Martina McBride and Newsong's
"One True God."
The video was directed by Matt Coale and produced by Terry Choate. It was edited by Bradford VanDemark of BlueSky Filmworks
and Brian Parker designed and performed the unique sand art segments. The music was written by Angela Kaset and Rob Crosby and originally
released as a country single. It is now a part of Teea's new album "The Way I Remember It" on Crosswind Records.
Teea has been on tour of the country doing media promoting of her new album. When home in Nashville she is frequently at
the Nashville Predators' games where she sings the "National Anthem."
Congratulations to Teea on this success and hope to see you soon in the area performing.

LEETON BULLDOGS DOMINATE

Leeton easily remained undefeated in conference play with a convincing 60-37 win
over Wentworth Military Academy. Alex Anstine dominated the inside with 11 for 19 from the field and led the team with 24 points.
Wentworth decided to have two men guarding Cameron Elwell most of the night and that left Dylan Swabby open to shoot 3 pointers. Dylan
added 15 points. Elwell lead the team with 6 assists. Leeton will play at Kingsville Friday night.
Leeton stats: Alex Anstine 24 pts, 6 reb, 3 steals; Dylan Swabby 15 pts, 2 reb, 1 steal; Levi Manley 8 pts, 9 reb;
Cameron Elwell 7 pts, 3 reb, 3 steals; James Cavender 2 pts, 3 reb; Wyatt Fleming 2 pts, 2 reb; Colter Armstrong 2 pts, 5 reb, 2 steals;

in this game running up an 18-0 score by the end of the first quarter. Leading the way was Mallory Early with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Megan
Uptegrove had an incredible 11 steals to feed the ball back to the Leeton Ladies. This conference game keeps the team undefeated in

FIRE STRIKES DOWNTOWN LEETON
Three Buildings Totaled
Sirens went screaming through town early in Leeton with firetrucks, ambulances
and highway patrolmen descending on the downtown business district of Leeton on Wednesday, January 25. Black smoke was billowing out of
the building north of the telephone building. For those familiar with Leeton, Maryl McCormack had a small engine shop there for several
years and earlier it was the Wykoff Barber Shop. The only thing left was the front of the building. A family had been living there but
had moved recently.
The fire moved northward and took the building that had been remodeled by Bill Crowder in the 1970's and was a doctor's
office for a time and then a western clothing store owned by Nadine Palmer. It was totaled.
The next building had already been partially destroyed in earlier problems. It had been the locker in the 1930 to
1950's where people kept their frozen foods. Later it became an apartment building with a laundromat in the first floor. That is totaled.
No report on the damage in the former Sweeny-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home which lately had been the site
of a flea market/antique store. Firemen were on top of the building chasing smoke and fire as evidenced in the pictures below.

Sight as approaching downtown from the north.
